2 Estes provérbios nos ajudam a dar valor à sabedoria e aos bons conselhos e a entender os pensamentos mais profundos. 3 Eles nos ensinam a vivermos de maneira inteligente e a sermos corretos, justos e honestos. 4 Podem também tornar sábia uma pessoa sem experiência e ensinar os moços a serem ajuizados. 5 Estes provérbios aumentam a sabedoria dos sábios e orientam os instruídos, 6 fazendo que entendam o significado escondido dos provérbios e dos ditados e compreendam os mistérios que os estudiosos procuram explicar.

7 Para ser sábio, é preciso primeiro temer a Deus, o Senhor. Os tolos desprezam a sabedoria e não querem aprender.

Conselhos para os moços

8 Meu filho, escute o que o seu pai ensina e preste atenção no que a sua mãe diz. 9 Os ensinamentos deles vão aperfeiçoar o seu caráter, assim como um belo turbante ou um colar melhoram a sua aparência.

10 Filho, se homens perversos quiserem tentar você, não deixe. 11 les poderão dizer: “Venha, vamos matar alguém! Vamos nos divertir atacando pessoas inocentes! 12 Estarão vivas e com saúde quando as encontrarmos, mas nós acabaremos com elas. 13 Acharemos todo tipo de riquezas e encheremos as nossas casas com as coisas roubadas. 14 Venha com a gente, que nós repartiremos o que roubarmos!”

15 Filho, não ande com gente dessa laia. Fique longe deles. 16 Eles têm pressa de fazer o mal e estão sempre prontos para matar. 17 Não adianta armar uma arapuca enquanto o passarinho estiver olhando. 18 No entanto esses homens estão preparando uma armadilha onde eles mesmos morrerão. 19 O que acontece com quem fica rico por meio da violência é isto: acaba sendo morto.

O aviso da Sabedoria

20 Escutem! A Sabedoria está gritando nas ruas e nas praças. 21 Nos portões das cidades e em todos os lugares onde o povo se reúne, ela está gritando alto, assim:

22 — Gente louca! Até quando vocês continuarão nesta loucura? Até quando terão prazer em zombar da sabedoria? Será que nunca aprenderão? 23 Escutem quando eu os corrijo. Eu darei bons conselhos e repartirei a minha sabedoria com vocês. 24 Eu chamei e convidei, mas vocês não me ouviram e não me deram atenção. 25 Vocês rejeitaram todos os meus conselhos e não quiseram que eu os corrigisse. 26 Assim, quando estiverem em dificuldades, eu rirei; e, quando o terror chegar, eu caçoarei de vocês. 27 Zombarei de vocês quando o terror vier como uma tempestade, trazendo fortes ventos de dificuldades. Eu rirei quando estiverem passando por sofrimentos e aflições. 28 Então vocês me chamarão, mas eu, a Sabedoria, não responderei. Vão procurar por toda parte, porém não me encontrarão. 29 Vocês não quiseram a sabedoria e sempre se recusaram a temer a Deus, o Senhor. 30 Não aceitaram os meus conselhos, nem prestaram atenção quando os corrigi. 31 Portanto, receberão o que merecem e ficarão aborrecidos com as coisas que fizeram. 32 Os tolos morrem porque rejeitam a sabedoria; os que não têm juízo são destruídos por estarem satisfeitos consigo mesmos. 33 Mas quem me ouvir terá segurança, viverá tranquilo e não terá motivo para ter medo de nada.

Purpose of Proverbs

1 The proverbs of Solomon, King David’s son, from Israel:

2 Their purpose is to teach wisdom and discipline, to help one understand wise sayings.

3 They provide insightful instruction, which is righteous, just, and full of integrity.

4 They make the naive mature, the young knowledgeable and discreet.

5 The wise hear them and grow in wisdom; those with understanding gain guidance.

6 They help one understand proverbs and difficult sayings, the words of the wise, and their puzzles.

7 Wisdom begins with the fear of the LORD, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Avoid evil associations

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction; don’t neglect your mother’s teaching; 9for they are a graceful wreath on your head, and beads for your neck.

10 My son, don’t let sinners entice you.

Don’t go 11 when they say:

"Come with us. Let’s set up a deadly ambush. Let’s secretly wait for the innocent just for fun.

12 Let’s swallow up the living like the graveHeb Sheol — whole, like those who go down into the pit.

13 We’ll find all sorts of precious wealth; we’ll fill our houses with plunder.

14 Throw in your lot with us; we’ll share our money."

15 My son, don’t go on the path with them; keep your feet from their way, 16 because their feet run to evil; they hurry to spill blood.

17 It’s useless to cast a net in the sight of a bird.

18 But these sinners set up a deadly ambush; they lie in wait for their own lives.

19 These are the ways of all who seek unjust gain; it costs them their lives.

Listen to Woman Wisdom

20 Wisdom shouts in the street; in the public square she raises her voice.

21 Above the noisy crowd, she calls out. At the entrances of the city gates, she has her say:

22 "How long will you clueless people love your naïveté, mockers hold their mocking dear,

and fools hate knowledge?

23 You should respond when I correct you. Look, I’ll pour out my spirit on you. I’ll reveal my words to you.

24 I invited you, but you rejected me; I stretched out my hand to you, but you paid no attention.

25 You ignored all my advice, and you didn’t want me to correct you.

26 So I’ll laugh at your disaster; I’ll make fun of you when dread comes over you, 27 when terror hits you like a hurricane, and your disaster comes in like a tornado, when distress and oppression overcome you.

28 Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will seek me, but won’t find me 29 because they hated knowledge and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD.

30 They didn’t want my advice; they rejected all my corrections.

31 They will eat from the fruit of their way, and they’ll be full of their own schemes.

32 The immature will die because they turn away; smugness will destroy fools.

33 Those who obey me will dwell securely, untroubled by the dread of harm."

Your petitions will carry to the clouds.

Ecclesiasticus, 35

1.One who keeps the Law multiplies offerings; one who follows the commandments offers communion sacrifices.

2.Proof of gratitude is an offering of fine flour, almsgiving a sacrifice of praise.

3.To abandon wickedness is what pleases the Lord, to give up wrong-doing is an expiatory sacrifice.

4.Do not appear empty-handed in the Lord's presence; for all these things are due under the commandment.

5.The offering of the upright graces the altar, and its savour rises before the Most High.

6.The sacrifice of the upright is acceptable, its memorial will not be forgotten.

7.Honour the Lord with generosity, do not stint the first-fruits you bring.

8.Add a smiling face to all your gifts, and be cheerful as you dedicate your tithes.

9.Give to the Most High as he has given to you, as generously as your means can afford;

10.for the Lord is a good rewarder, he will reward you seven times over.

11.Do not try to bribe him with presents, he will not accept them, do not put your faith in wrongly motivated sacrifices;

12.for the Lord is a judge who is utterly impartial.

13.He never shows partiality to the detriment of the poor, he listens to the plea of the injured party.

14.He does not ignore the orphan's supplication, nor the widow's as she pours out her complaint.

15.Do the widow's tears not run down her cheeks, as she accuses the man who is the cause of them?

16.Whoever wholeheartedly serves God will be accepted, his petitions will carry to the clouds.

17.The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds: and until it does, he is not to be consoled,

18.nor will he desist until the Most High takes notice of him, acquits the upright and delivers judgement.

19.And the Lord will not be slow, nor will he be dilatory on their behalf,

20.until he has crushed the loins of the merciless and exacted vengeance on the nations,

21.until he has eliminated the hordes of the arrogant and broken the sceptres of the wicked,

22.until he has repaid all people as their deeds deserve and human actions as their intentions merit,

23.until he has judged the case of his people and made them rejoice in his mercy.

24.Mercy is welcome in time of trouble, like rain clouds in time of drought.

Pois da sua face sobem até o céu

Eclesiástico, 35

1. Aquele que observa a lei faz numerosas oferendas.

2. É um sacrifício salutar guardar os preceitos, e apartar-se de todo pecado.

3. Afastar-se da injustiça é oferecer um sacrifício de propiciação, que consegue o perdão dos pecados.

4. Aquele que oferece a flor da farinha dá graças, e o que usa de misericórdia oferece um sacrifício.

5. Abster-se do mal é coisa agradável ao Senhor; o fugir da injustiça alcança o perdão dos pecados.

6. Não te apresentarás diante do Senhor com as mãos vazias, 7. pois todos (esses ritos) se fazem para obedecer aos preceitos divinos.

8. A oblação do justo enriquece o altar; é um suave odor na presença do Senhor.

9. O sacrifício do justo é aceito (por Deus). O Senhor não se esquecerá dele.

10. Dá glória a Deus de bom coração e nada suprimas das primícias (do produto) de tuas mãos.

11. Faze todas as tuas oferendas com um rosto alegre, consagra os dízimos com alegria.

12. Dá ao Altíssimo conforme te foi dado por ele, dá de bom coração de acordo com o que tuas mãos ganharam, 13. pois o Senhor retribui a dádiva, e recompensar-te-á tudo sete vezes mais.

14. Não lhe ofereças dádivas perversas, pois ele não as aceitará.

15. Nada esperes de um sacrifício injusto, porque o Senhor é teu juiz, e ele não faz distinção de pessoas.

16. O Senhor não faz acepção de pessoa em detrimento do pobre, e ouve a oração do ofendido.

17. Não despreza a oração do órfão, nem os gemidos da viúva.

18. As lágrimas da viúva não correm pela sua face, e seu grito não atinge aquele que as faz derramar?

19. Pois da sua face sobem até o céu; o Senhor que a ouve, não se compraz em vê-la chorar.

20. Aquele que adora a Deus na alegria será bem recebido, e sua oração se elevará até as nuvens.

21. A oração do humilde penetra as nuvens; ele não se consolará, enquanto ela não chegar (a Deus), e não se afastará, enquanto o Altíssimo não puser nela os olhos.

22. O Senhor não concederá prazo: ele julgará os justos e fará justiça. O fortíssimo não terá paciência com (os opressores), mas esmagar-lhes-á os rins.

23. Vingar-se-á das nações, até suprimir a multidão dos soberbos, e quebrar os cetros dos iníquos;

24. até que ele dê aos homens segundo as suas obras, segundo a conduta de Adão, e segundo a sua presunção;

25. até que faça justiça ao seu povo, e dê alegria aos justos por um efeito de sua misericórdia.

26. A misericórdia divina no tempo da tribulação é bela; é como a nuvem que esparge a chuva na época da seca.

Go, for this one is an instrument chosen by me to convey my name

1 Now Saul, still breathing threats and beatings against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

2 and he petitioned him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that, if he found any men or women belonging to this Way, he could lead them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

3 And as he made the journey, it happened that he was approaching Damascus. And suddenly, a light from heaven shone around him.

4 And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"

5 And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he: "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goad."

6 And he, trembling and astonished, said, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"

7 And the Lord said to him, "Rise up and go into the city, and there you will be told what you ought to do." Now the men who were accompanying him were standing stupefied, hearing indeed a voice, but seeing no one.

8 Then Saul rose up from the ground. And upon opening his eyes, he saw nothing. So leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.

9 And in that place, he was without sight for three days, and he neither ate nor drank.

10 Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias!" And he said, "Here I am, Lord."

11 And the Lord said to him: "Rise up and go into the street that is called Straight, and seek, in the house of Judas, the one named Saul of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying."

12 (And Paul saw a man named Ananias entering and imposing hands upon him, so that he might receive his sight.)

13 But Ananias responded: "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem.

14 And he has authority here from the leaders of the priests to bind all who invoke your name."

15 Then the Lord said to him: "Go, for this one is an instrument chosen by me to convey my name before nations and kings and the sons of Israel.

16 For I will reveal to him how much he must suffer on behalf of my name."

17 And Ananias departed. And he entered the house. And laying his hands upon him, he said: "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, he who appeared to you on the way by which you arrived, sent me so that you would receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

18 And immediately, it was as if scales had fallen from his eyes, and he received his sight. And rising up, he was baptized.

19 And when he had taken a meal, he was strengthened. Now he was with the disciples who were at Damascus for some days.

20 And he was continuously preaching Jesus in the synagogues: that he is the Son of God.

21 And all who heard him were astonished, and they said, "Is this not the one who, in Jerusalem, was fighting against those invoking this name, and who came here for this: so that he might lead them away to the leaders of the priests?"

22 But Saul was increasing to a greater extent in ability, and so he was confounding the Jews who lived at Damascus, by affirming that he is the Christ.

23 And when many days were completed, the Jews took counsel as one, so that they might put him to death.

24 But their treachery became known to Saul. Now they were also watching the gates, day and night, so that they might put him to death.

25 But the disciples, taking him away by night, sent him over the wall by letting him down in a basket.

26 And when he had arrived in Jerusalem, he attempted to join himself to the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

27 But Barnabas took him aside and led him to the Apostles. And he explained to them how he had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken to him, and how, in Damascus, he had acted faithfully in the name of Jesus.

28 And he was with them, entering and departing Jerusalem, and acting faithfully in the name of the Lord.

29 He also was speaking with the Gentiles and disputing with the Greeks. But they were seeking to kill him.

30 And when the brothers had realized this, they brought him to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.

31 Certainly, the Church had peace throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and it was being built up, while walking in the fear of the Lord, and it was being filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.

32 Then it happened that Peter, as he traveled around everywhere, came to the saints who were living at Lydda.

33 But he found there a certain man, named Aeneas, who was a paralytic, who had lain in bed for eight years.

34 And Peter said to him: "Aeneas, the Lord Jesus Christ heals you. Rise up and arrange your bed." And immediately he rose up.

35 And all who were living in Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they were converted to the Lord.

36 Now in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which in translation is called Dorcas. She was filled with the good works and almsgiving that she was accomplishing.

37 And it happened that, in those days, she became ill and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

38 Now since Lydda was close to Joppa, the disciples, upon hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, asking him: "Do not be slow in coming to us."

39 Then Peter, rising up, went with them. And when he had arrived, they led him to an upper room. And all the widows were standing around him, weeping and showing him the tunics and garments that Dorcas had made for them.

40 And when they had all been sent outside, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the body, he said: "Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes and, upon seeing Peter, sat up again.

41 And offering her his hand, he lifted her up. And when he had called in the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

42 Now this became known throughout all of Joppa. And many believed in the Lord.

43 And it happened that he resided for many days in Joppa, with a certain Simon, a tanner.

Eu escolhi esse homem para trabalhar para mim

A conversão de Saulo

Atos 22.6-16; 26.12-18

1 Enquanto isso, Saulo não parava de ameaçar de morte os seguidores do Senhor Jesus. Ele foi falar com o Grande Sacerdote 2 e pediu cartas de apresentação para as sinagogas da cidade de Damasco. Com esses documentos Saulo poderia prender e levar para Jerusalém os seguidores do Caminho do Senhor que moravam ali, tanto os homens como as mulheres.

3 Mas na estrada de Damasco, quando Saulo já estava perto daquela cidade, de repente, uma luz que vinha do céu brilhou em volta dele. 4 Ele caiu no chão e ouviu uma voz que dizia:

— Saulo, Saulo, por que você me persegue?

5 — Quem é o senhor? — perguntou ele.

A voz respondeu:

— Eu sou Jesus, aquele que você persegue. 6 Mas levante-se, entre na cidade, e ali dirão a você o que deve fazer.

7 Os homens que estavam viajando com Saulo ficaram parados sem poder dizer nada. Eles ouviram a voz, mas não viram ninguém. 8 Saulo se levantou do chão e abriu os olhos, mas não podia ver nada. Então eles o pegaram pela mão e o levaram para Damasco. 9 Ele ficou três dias sem poder ver e durante esses dias não comeu nem bebeu nada.

10 Em Damasco morava um seguidor de Jesus chamado Ananias. Ele teve uma visão, e nela apareceu o Senhor, chamando:

— Ananias!

Ele respondeu:

— Aqui estou, Senhor!

11 E o Senhor lhe disse:

— Apronte-se, e vá até a casa de Judas, na rua Direita, e procure um homem chamado Saulo, da cidade de Tarso. Ele está orando 12 e teve uma visão. Nela apareceu um homem chamado Ananias, que entrou e pôs as mãos sobre ele a fim de que ele pudesse ver de novo.

13 Ananias respondeu:

— Senhor, muita gente tem me falado a respeito desse homem e de todas as maldades que ele fez em Jerusalém com os que creem no Senhor. 14 E agora ele veio aqui a Damasco com autorização dos chefes dos sacerdotes para prender todos os que te adoram.

15 Mas o Senhor disse a Ananias:

— Vá, pois eu escolhi esse homem para trabalhar para mim, a fim de que ele anuncie o meu nome aos não judeus, aos reis e ao povo de Israel. 16 Eu mesmo vou mostrar a Saulo tudo o que ele terá de sofrer por minha causa.

17 Então Ananias foi, entrou na casa de Judas, pôs as mãos sobre Saulo e disse:

— Saulo, meu irmão, o Senhor que me mandou aqui é o mesmo Jesus que você viu na estrada de Damasco. Ele me mandou para que você veja de novo e fique cheio do Espírito Santo.

18 No mesmo instante umas coisas parecidas com escamas caíram dos olhos de Saulo, e ele pôde ver de novo. Ele se levantou e foi batizado; 19 depois ele comeu alguma coisa e ficou forte como antes.

Saulo em Damasco

Saulo ficou alguns dias com os seguidores de Jesus em Damasco. 20 E começou imediatamente a anunciar Jesus nas sinagogas, dizendo:

— Jesus é o Filho de Deus.

21 Todos os que ouviam Saulo ficavam admirados e perguntavam:

— Não é este o homem que em Jerusalém estava matando todos os seguidores de Jesus? Não foi ele que veio até aqui para prender e levar essa gente aos chefes dos sacerdotes?

22 Mas as mensagens de Saulo se tornavam cada vez mais poderosas. E as provas que ele apresentava de que Jesus era o Messias eram tão fortes, que os judeus que moravam em Damasco não sabiam o que dizer.

23 Muitos dias depois, os judeus de Damasco se reuniram e resolveram matá-lo, 24 mas Saulo ficou sabendo do plano deles. Eles vigiavam os portões da cidade dia e noite para o matar. 25 Mas certa noite os seguidores de Saulo o puseram dentro de um cesto e o desceram por uma abertura que havia na muralha da cidade.

Saulo em Jerusalém

26 Saulo foi para Jerusalém e tentou juntar-se aos seguidores de Jesus. Porém todos tinham medo dele porque não acreditavam que ele também era seguidor de Jesus. 27 Então Barnabé veio ajudá-lo e o apresentou aos apóstolos. E lhes contou como Saulo tinha visto o Senhor no caminho e como o Senhor havia falado com ele. Barnabé também contou como, em Damasco, Saulo, pelo poder do nome de Jesus, havia anunciado corajosamente o evangelho. 28 Depois disso Saulo ficou com eles, andando por toda parte em Jerusalém; e, pelo poder do nome do Senhor, ele anunciava corajosamente o evangelho. 29 Ele também conversava e discutia com os judeus que tinham sido criados fora da terra de Israel, mas eles procuravam um jeito de matá-lo. 30 Quando os irmãos souberam disso, levaram Saulo até a cidade de Cesareia e depois o mandaram para a cidade de Tarso.

31 Em toda a região da Judeia, Galileia e Samaria, a Igreja estava em paz. Ela ficava cada vez mais forte, crescia em número de pessoas com a ajuda do Espírito Santo e mostrava grande respeito pelo Senhor Jesus.

Pedro nas cidades de Lida e Jope

32 Pedro viajava por toda parte. Um dia foi visitar o povo de Deus que morava na cidade de Lida. 33 Encontrou ali um homem chamado Eneias, que era paralítico e fazia oito anos que não saía da cama. 34 Pedro lhe disse:

— Eneias, Jesus Cristo já curou você. Levante-se e arrume a sua cama.

Na mesma hora Eneias se levantou. 35 Então todos os moradores da cidade de Lida e da região de Sarom viram isso e se converteram ao Senhor.

36 Na cidade de Jope havia uma seguidora de Jesus chamada Tabita. (Este nome em grego é Dorcas .) Ela usava todo o seu tempo fazendo o bem e ajudando os pobres.

37 Naqueles dias Dorcas ficou doente e morreu. Lavaram o corpo dela e depois o puseram num quarto do andar de cima. 38 Jope ficava perto de Lida. Quando os seguidores de Jesus em Jope souberam que Pedro estava em Lida, enviaram dois homens para levar-lhe o seguinte recado:

— Por favor, venha depressa até Jope!

39 Então Pedro se aprontou e foi com eles. Quando chegou lá, eles o levaram para o quarto de cima. Todas as viúvas ficaram em volta dele, chorando e mostrando os vestidos e as outras roupas que Dorcas havia feito quando ainda vivia. 40 Então Pedro mandou que todos saíssem do quarto e em seguida se ajoelhou e orou. Depois virou-se para o corpo de Dorcas e disse:

— Tabita, levante-se!

Ela abriu os olhos e, quando viu Pedro, sentou-se. 41 Pedro pegou-a pela mão e ajudou-a a ficar de pé. Em seguida chamou toda a gente da igreja, inclusive as viúvas, e a entregou a eles viva.

42 As notícias a respeito disso se espalharam por toda a cidade de Jope, e muitos creram no Senhor. 43 E Pedro ficou lá muitos dias, na casa de um curtidor de couros chamado Simão.
