18:1 Then Bildad the Shuhite made answer and said,18:2 How long will it be before you have done talking? Get wisdom, and then we will say what is in our minds.18:3 Why do we seem as beasts in your eyes, and as completely without knowledge?18:4 But come back, now, come: you who are wounding yourself in your passion, will the earth be given up because of you, or a rock be moved out of its place?18:5 For the light of the sinner is put out, and the flame of his fire is not shining.18:6 The light is dark in his tent, and the light shining over him is put out.18:7 The steps of his strength become short, and by his design destruction overtakes him.18:8 His feet take him into the net, and he goes walking into the cords.18:9 His foot is taken in the net; he comes into its grip.18:10 The twisted cord is put secretly in the earth to take him, and the cord is placed in his way.18:11 He is overcome by fears on every side, they go after him at every step.18:12 His strength is made feeble for need of food, and destruction is waiting for his falling footstep.18:13 His skin is wasted by disease, and his body is food for the worst of diseases.18:14 He is pulled out of his tent where he was safe, and he is taken away to the king of fears.18:15 In his tent will be seen that which is not his, burning stone is dropped on his house.18:16 Under the earth his roots are dry, and over it his branch is cut off.18:17 His memory is gone from the earth, and in the open country there is no knowledge of his name.18:18 He is sent away from the light into the dark; he is forced out of the world.18:19 He has no offspring or family among his people, and in his living-place there is no one of his name.18:20 At his fate those of the west are shocked, and those of the east are overcome with fear.18:21 Truly, these are the houses of the sinner, and this is the place of him who has no knowledge of God.
Comment:
The second speech of Bildad. The most extraordinary feature: Nothing new! (Not that simply want news, but in this case there is no value in the mere repetition. We need to know when to keep silent in! And while we will repeat the message of the gospel, let's do it always using a fresh food, with new texts, illustrations etc.)
It seems that became more apparent to Bildad that Job was wrong, and that God has carried out all trials.
I. "Job, the problem is with you" v. 2-5.
v. 2 This seems to have become the keynote speeches! "Be quiet so I can talk!" (8: 2, 11: 2, 15: 2-3)
Why the plural? Perhaps some of the listeners showing signs of sympathy and agreement with Job? Or, Since Job is the only one who speaks this way, Bildad the accused is talking too! "You talked too much and for too long."
Consider = Be smart, consider, understand, realize. "Pay attention to what we're talking about."
v. 3 "You think we're animals!" (Based on 12: 7) "You should have a slightly higher thought about us than you think. We want to be followed. "
Baldad exaggerates their offenses. Takes it personally what no one could be sure. Henry: "The proud are able to feel more despised than they really are."
- Beware of pride! Comp. Romans 12: 3. Cultivate humility.
- Do not increase the problem by adding or using the wrong words. If you look for an insult certainly find you!
"You are so vile, and think that we are also! (As if they were free to think this way, but Job did not.)
- We give another name to our sins. We could not identify our own blindness. Comp. Rom. 2: 21-23.
v. 4 to O thou. Probably Job "You are the cause of their own problems. You can not blame anyone else (as in 16: 9). Your stubborn anger, and the refusal to confess his sin, are destroying you! "
- Some elements of truth in the main summary. Henry: "Anger is a sin that brings its own punishment. People easily angry cry and torment themselves. "Error applying this principle to the case of Job.
v. 4 b You expect God rephrase His righteousness to adapt to you? ... The earth and the sky will change because of you. Who do you think you are? His arrogant, selfish and stubborn! "
- What turned the tables! The worst accusations came from those who should first look in the mirror. Be careful to examine first before the coming correct the other. (Eg, "Listen, you better stay calm and be quiet, now!") God reveals our sins before they are revealed to others!
II. "This is the reason for his suffering" v. 5-21
Portrait of man fail, wicked. "A refined evil" in this chapter. Repetition of the same principles. You may not have heard the first (2, 3, 4) time. How dare you play this universal truth! "
1. Several similarities:
v. 5-6 Withdrawal light
v. 7-10 The floor of such a person to an animal about to fall into the trap. The more he tries to hold more ensnared he is (v. 7). It is won by robbers.
v. 11-15 A criminal being chased by the court for trial. Think of the cap. 1, would be to say that Job was being impeached by the wrath of God.
The firstborn of death (v. 13) = the power of death, for the first-born was regarded as the most powerful member of the family.
The King of terrors (v. 14) = Death
v. 15 what is not yours = eg stolen, acquired by illegal means, not your right. Think of the destruction caused by fire in the cap. 1.
v. 16 destroyed, sick.
2. The bitter harvest:
v. 17 Forgotten
v. 18 Removed
v. 19 Desolate. How cruel to Job. "No children = bland."
v. 20 Quote of the cap. 17: 8 "God will use people as example (as you, Job). God sends a shocking message to those who are around.
v. 21 Summary: "This is what happens to the wicked. You have all the characteristics of an unregenerate person (eg the lack of outward prosperity). "
This will never end ?! That "friends" cruel and inhuman!
Learn:
1. Some truths that Bildad says, the life of the sinner is miserable. He is a terror to yourself and to your own happiness.
2. The error Baldad: he fails to prove (1) that sinners always live in a miserable state in this world. (2) that all who go through great trials are sinners. (Be sure of what are and what are not evidence of grace.)
3. The conviction does not always express the truth. Do not let the conviction that a mistake is expressed, shake its foundations. Satan often attacks us, as he did Job, with emphatic assertions of error, or the very wrongly applied.
4. Although death is the king of terrors, she is no match for the King of Glory and the Prince of Peace, who conquered death for us, transforming it into a servant!
