Don't Be Foolish

1 Si 29.14-20.  My child, suppose you agree to pay the debt of someone, who cannot repay a loan. 2 Then you are trapped by your own words, 3and you are now in the power of someone else. Here is what you should do: Go and beg for permission to call off the agreement.

4 Do this before you fall asleep or even get sleepy. 5 Save yourself, just as a deer or a bird tries to escape from a hunter. 6 You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill. 7 Ants don't have leaders, 8 but they store up food during harvest season. 9 How long will you lie there doing nothing at all? When are you going to get up and stop sleeping? 10 Sleep a little. Doze a little. Fold your hands and twiddle your thumbs. 11 Suddenly, everything is gone, as though it had been taken by an armed robber. 12 Worthless liars go around 13  winking and giving signals to deceive others. 14 They are always thinking up something cruel and evil, and they stir up trouble. 15 But they will be struck by sudden disaster and left without a hope.

16 There are six or seven kinds of people the Lord doesn't like:

17 Those who are too proud or tell lies or murder,  18 those who make evil plans or are quick to do wrong, 19 those who tell lies in court or stir up trouble in a family.

20 Obey the teaching of your parents— 21 always keep it in mind and never forget it.

22Their teaching will guide you when you walk, protect you when you sleep, and talk to you

when you are awake. 23 The Law of the Lord is a lamp, and its teachings shine brightly. Correction and self-control will lead you through life.

24 They will protect you from the flattering words of someone else's wife.6.24 someone else's wife: Or “an evil woman.”  25 Don't let yourself be attracted by the charm and lovely eyes of someone like that. 26 A woman who sells her love can be bought for as little as the price of a meal. But making love to another man's wife will cost you everything. 27 If you carry burning coals, you burn your clothes; 28 if you step on hot coals, you burn your feet.

29 And if you go to bed with another man's wife, you pay the price. 30 We don't put up with thieves, not even with one who steals for something to eat. 31 And thieves who get caught must pay back seven times what was stolen and lose everything.

32 But if you go to bed with another man's wife, you will destroy yourself by your own stupidity. 33 You will be beaten and forever disgraced, 34 because a jealous husband can be furious and merciless when he takes revenge. 35 He won't let you pay him off, no matter what you offer.

16-19 Existem sete coisas que o Senhor Deus detesta e que não pode tolerar:

o olhar orgulhoso,

a língua mentirosa,

mãos que matam gente inocente,

a mente que faz planos perversos,

pés que se apressam para fazer o mal,

a testemunha falsa que diz mentiras

e a pessoa que provoca brigas entre amigos.

Os perigos do adultério

20 ilho, faça o que o seu pai diz e nunca esqueça o que a sua mãe ensinou. 21 Guarde sempre as suas palavras bem-gravadas no coração. 22 Os seus ensinamentos o guiarão quando você viajar, protegerão você de noite e aconselharão de dia. 23 As suas instruções são uma luz brilhante, e a sua correção ensina a viver. 24 Elas livrarão você da mulher imoral e das suas palavras sedutoras. 25 Não seja tentado pela sua beleza, nem caia na armadilha dos seus olhos tentadores. 26 Qualquer homem pode ter uma prostituta por pouco dinheiro, mas o adultério custará a ele a sua própria vida.

27 Será que você pode carregar fogo no colo sem queimar a roupa? 28 Será que você pode andar em cima de brasas sem queimar os pés? 29 O homem que dorme com a mulher de outro corre esse mesmo perigo. Quem fizer isso terá de sofrer muito. 30 Quem rouba comida para matar a fome não é desprezado. 31 Porém, se é apanhado, tem de pagar sete vezes mais: ele precisa entregar tudo o que tem. 32 No entanto o homem que comete adultério não tem juízo; ele está se destruindo a si mesmo. 33 Passará vergonha, levará uma surra e ficará desmoralizado para sempre. 34 Porque o ciúme faz o marido ficar furioso, e a sua vingança não tem limites. 35 Ele não aceitará nenhum pagamento; e mesmo uma porção de presentes não acabará com a sua raiva.

O amor é tão poderoso como a morte; e a paixão é tão forte como a sepultura.

What Pleases God

1 From east to west, the powerful Lord God has been calling together everyone on earth.

6 The heavens announce, “God is the judge, and he is always honest.”

7 My people, I am God!

Israel, I am your God.

Listen to my charges against you.

8 Although you offer sacrifices and always bring gifts, 9 I won't accept your offerings of bulls and goats.

10 Every animal in the forest belongs to me, and so do the cattle on a thousand hills.

11 I know all the birds in the mountains, and every wild creature is in my care.

12 If I were hungry, I wouldn't tell you, because I own the world and everything in it.

16 But to the wicked I say:

“You don't have the right to mention my laws or claim to keep our agreement!

17 You refused correction and rejected my commands.

18 You made friends with every crook you met, and you liked people who break their wedding vows.

19 You talked only about violence and told nothing but lies; 20 you sat around gossiping, ruining the reputation of your own relatives.”

21 When you did all this, I didn't say a word, and you thought, “God is just like us!”

But now I will accuse you. 

22 You have ignored me!

So pay close attention or I will tear you apart, and no one can help you.

23 The sacrifice that honors me is a thankful heart.

Obey me, and I, your God, will show my power to save.
